Whether as a garnish, to gratinate foods or as a dessert, cheese is popular everywhere. But for a long time it was above all considered a fattening and calorie bomb. But that’s only half the truth! Cheese lovers breathe a sigh of relief – here you can find out what the cheese diet is all about.
This is the French cheese diet
If cheese is so unhealthy, how come French people who love cheese are so thin? This idea is at the origin of the new dietary trend. In fact, France has the highest consumption of cheese in the world. On average, the French consume more saturated fat in the form of cheese than is healthy according to the World Health Organization (WHO). This high consumption generally leads to more heart disease (such as heart attacks) and a higher associated mortality rate. But it is surprisingly low in France. So far, we don’t know why. This conundrum is also called the “French paradox” and started the French cheese diet trend.

Lose weight with cheese: These are the most popular French cheeses
One fact that supports the thesis behind the cheese diet is that full-fat French cheeses contain less sugar than low-fat diet foods. So far, however, there is no evidence that strong French cheeses such as Camembert, Livarot, Comté, Saint-Marcellin or Brie actually help maintain a slim figure or even help you lose weight. But different types of cheese have their benefits: Brie, for example, is rich in vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 and fills you up quickly. Cottage cheese is particularly popular with fitness enthusiasts due to its high protein content. If you want to eat cheese without hesitation during a diet, you must use parmesan cheese. Indeed, it is particularly low in calories and fat. It contains only 20 calories and 1.5 g of fat per tablespoon. Parmesan cheese is also rich in vitamin A and calcium. Due to its intense taste, this type of cheese is not consumed in large quantities and a feeling of satiety quickly sets in. Another cheese that helps with weight loss is Harz cheese. It is one of the sour milk products and at 0.5% fat it is extremely low in fat. A particularly tasty cheese that can support the weight loss process is goat cheese. It is low in calories and rich in calcium, which strengthens the bones. It also packs a lot of protein, which is important for building muscle. However, goat cheese has a high fat content, so it can only be eaten in moderation.
By the way: the right kind of tea and healthy home remedies like apple cider vinegar help you lose weight. Apparently a cold shower helps too. Our secret tip: foods with bitter substances make the pounds drop.
Is the cheese diet really good for weight loss?
It sounds too good to be true. And it probably is. So far, there is no evidence that cheese helps you lose weight. Even if the “French paradox” raises some questions, it is clear that the French do not eat only cheese. Conscious eating is just as much a part of French culture as pleasure and the choice of quality food. And everyone can learn a lesson from that.
