During an operation for suspected intrusion and attempted fraud in a fitness studio on Bonn’s market square, two police officers and an employee of the city’s foreign service were injured on Tuesday afternoon.
At 2.15 p.m., officers were called to a fitness studio on Bonn’s market square because two men did not want to leave the studio despite the employee’s request. On the spot, it turned out that the two men, aged 21 and 25, had trained in the studio with tickets that were probably invalid. When an employee informed the two suspects that she would be keeping the tickets, the men became aggressive, filmed the conversation with the employee against her wishes, and refused to leave the studio. Out of fear, the employee informed the police.
When officers arrived, the men continued to be aggressive. When officers announced that the mobile phones would be confiscated as evidence, the 25-year-old jumped up, pushed the officer aside and tried to leave. He was arrested by another officer. On the other hand, the suspect defended himself massively with punches against the head and the upper body of the officers. The man also used targeted kicks and headbutts. After the use of pepper spray and support from a witness, the man was subdued. At the same time, the 21-year-old put up considerable resistance but was able to be tied up with the support of a member of law enforcement.
The two men were taken to the police headquarters. The 25-year-old continued to be aggressive there. In order to avoid further criminal offences, he remained at police headquarters by order of the judge until the morning of March 30, 2022. The 21-year-old was released after filing a complaint.
Two police officers had to be examined in a hospital and treated on an outpatient basis. They could no longer continue their service. The employee of the Bonn city security service was also injured. The two suspects are also being investigated on suspicion of assaulting law enforcement officers and causing bodily harm.
