Obesity is killing us – but with these tips losing weight works for everyone!

Yes Yes! Now we come around the corner with the boring topic of food. The last look in the mirror shocked you – but you haven’t done anything about the excess weight so far. It’s so easy – at least that’s what Berlin general practitioner Dr. Carsten Lekutat (51) says. He wrote a book: “Slim for Lazy People”! Everyone can use his tips to lose weight.

“Most of us are lazy, including me,” admits Dr. Lécutat from “BZ”. “Lazy in the sense of: we have so much to do. You have to work, raise children, take care of your parents, travel, keep your appointments, always be informed… And then do something to lose weight? Naturally, it is difficult for us.

A Berlin doctor warns: obesity can kill us!

As a physician, Dr. Lekutat but also that fatty tissue is not a passive structure that surrounds us. It affects our cholesterol levels and increases the risk of calcification of our vessels. It also leads to inflammation and immune responses. In short: fat makes you sick. “And – if we are really unlucky – it will even kill us,” says Dr. Lécutat.

He himself was overweight. So something had to happen. And something happened. The doctor has lost 22 kilos in recent years – and maintained his weight. But it wasn’t just casual. He researched, talked to experts and experimented.

“It’s more than the well-known formula: if I consume less energy than I use, I will lose weight,” says Lekutat. He wrote his experiences for everyone – in his book “Schlank für Laule” (Knaur editions, 20 euros). KURIER reveals its best tips and tricks.

Tip 1: An egg for breakfast before muesli helps the diet

When we eat sweets, there are two reactions in the body. On the one hand, sugar is either burned for energy or stored in our fat stores. On the other hand, sugar leads to an increase in blood sugar levels and a release of insulin. And that makes it harder to break down fat!

So, are sweets still taboo? They are not! But Dr. Lekutat has some advice: “But if I can slow down the rise in blood sugar by eating a protein-rich food first, then I will also slow down the release of the hormone insulin. And when I slow down insulin, I also decreases the inhibitory effect on fat loss.

Want to eat gummy bears? Eat cheese first. Should there be muesli for breakfast? An egg in front would be desirable.

Tip 2: Drinking water before eating speeds up weight loss

You can lose more than four kilograms a year without having to do anything really important for it. How? ‘Or’ What? By drinking half a liter of water before each meal, studies show this. “First of all, water accelerates the appearance of the feeling of satiety: if there is already a lot of water in the stomach, less food enters”, reveals Dr. Lécutat. “Second, Charité researchers have shown that 1.5 to 2 liters of drinking water per day can increase energy expenditure by up to 100 calories.”

Tip 3: Reduce your salt intake and lose weight

yes we need salt But like everything, it’s a question of dose. One thing is clear: many processes in the body would not work without the supply of salt. But: “Salt makes you hungry! Anything that our body needs but does not produce itself is extremely good for us. This is why we like to eat more salty foods than is really necessary”, explains Dr. Lécutat. You can also season it differently, with herbs for example. Reduce your salt intake.

Tip 4: Exercise for 15 minutes after eating

Exercise is the be-all and end-all if you want to lose weight and live a healthier life. But don’t worry, you don’t have to mutate into a competitive athlete right away. Very small steps for more exercise help. Dr. Lekutat recommends: “Take a 15 minute walk 15 minutes after eating!” First, the calories provided are at least partly directly consumed. Secondly, the blood sugar level and thus the automatic release of insulin is reduced – and fat is directly burned.”
