A gruesome incident ensues in Monday night’s bang between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills. Soccer star Damar Hamlin (24/Bills) suddenly collapses on the field late in the first quarter and has yet to be resuscitated on the field.

After more than an hour of interruption, the game is completely stopped.

What happened?

After colliding with opponent Tee Higgins, Bills defenseman Hamlin stands up briefly, only to fall back a split second later. A shock for his team, the opposing players – and all the spectators!

At 8:55 p.m. local time (2:55 a.m. in Germany) the game will be interrupted. Doctors rush to the field. An ambulance drives on the ground. Hamlin is resuscitated (his jersey has been opened for this) and then taken out of the stadium 16 minutes after collapsing.

Eyewitnesses report that Hamlin is put on an oxygen mask. There is a report from news broadcaster Fox that the player cannot breathe on their own.

Under police escort, the 24-year-old was taken to a clinic by ambulance. Next to him is his mother, who happened to be a spectator in the stadium and had to witness the drama.

TV channels turn off or show a camera taken from afar for brief moments. Around 100 people can be seen briefly on the pitch, in addition to doctors, players and officials.

Bills coach Sean McDermott is shaken badly. Quarterback Josh Allen and other stars are crying. The shock is noticeable for everyone! The players form a circle and pray together. The Bills’ Stefon Diggs talks to all the players and wants to strengthen them.

Then the game is officially “suspended”, i.e. discontinued. Teams and officials head to the catacombs at Paycor Stadium to discuss the abandonment of the game. Shortly after 10 p.m. local time, the decision was made: the game was called off with the Bengals at 7-3.

The NFL then announced later that evening that Hamlin was in critical condition.
