175 kilos is a thing of the past: this is how Andreas conquered his kilos and his diabetes

In February 2017, I started to change my life – at a weight of 175 kilos. I never thought my weight loss would change my life the way it is now.

There were several reasons why I started: I would occasionally look at the nutrition material on NDR and be like, “Oops, what is possible and doable with nutrition and sport/exercise. ..”

I had type 2 diabetes and I no longer wanted to inject insulin. Then I finally wanted to wear fashionable clothes – in the end I was a size 6XL.

I no longer wanted the chairs to collapse under me and also the slatted base of the bed.

I thought to myself, “Andreas, you want it, it clicked in my head. And what did I have to lose? Nothing, except when it’s going well – pounds.

I changed my diet. Three meals a day, nothing in between. I gave up 90% of the sugar and drastically reduced the carbs, and also ate more protein.

“It was not at all difficult for me from the start”

Of course, I stayed in a calorie deficit. It was not at all difficult for me from the start. No voracious appetite attacks, no bad moods and also no phases of depression – which my surroundings have always confirmed to me.

I had set myself the goal of losing 50 pounds. Such a path is not possible without a goal. And not without examining your own eating habits.

I moved around more in the first six months, didn’t take the escalator or elevator. At first I thought it wouldn’t work, but the first step is the most important.

“At the beginning, my biological age was 83 years old”

But here too, the first step was not easy, but a big step. So, from September 2017, I did sports three times a week – namely EGym. These are fully electronic weight machines for all muscle groups, which were developed according to the latest scientific findings in training.

At the start of training, the biological age is also determined using a force measurement. At first I was 83, now I’m 22 – on paper of course I’m still 55.

I would also like to say that I handled everything without surgery, chemicals or jerks.

And if the question arises as to what happened to the skin: Yes, it hangs a little on the stomach and on the upper arms and thighs. But after careful consideration, I decided that no one should look perfect and that at 55, skin can also sag and that’s part of my story and my journey.

“I have always believed in myself”

Nobody would have thought that I could make it or get away with it. From January 2018 I was out of insulin, just had to take pills – and not even since October 2018. I am kind of a dry diabetic.

Honestly, I had tears in my eyes when this was announced to me. I also had to take beta blockers, cholesterol lowering drugs and blood pressure lowering drugs, it’s ancient history and I feel as good as ever.

In total, I’ve lost 88 kilos, I’m wearing a size M/L and I still exercise two to three times a week – because I love it! I would like to encourage everyone to say that everything is possible, but it depends on you. I definitely don’t have a piece or a six pack and I’m just a normal guy.

I live and love my new life. Sport and exercise are as much a part of my life as breathing. Conscious eating and living go without saying.

I’m damn proud of my success story, I had the right to see it on TV with Dr. Johannes Wimmer and was able to motivate other people. If someone had predicted this to me 5 years ago… I would have laughed.

Everything is possible with self-confidence.
