Luxury Car hire made easy

By Robert D. Thomson

Car hire is easy. You book your chosen vehicle, exchange money online or in person with the car rental agency and the keys are happily handed over to you, to do with as you please [not online of course, the technology for virtual keys is yet to exist]. Sounds so simple doesn’t it? Yet some still manage to goof it up. A father and son team from down under, sunlit Australia to be exact, rented a black Holden Astra [their version of the popular Opel Astra] for the purpose of a business trip. When they returned it a week later, the tank was full yet the car would not start. This puzzle was solved after the mechanic noticed that the tank was filled with water and not gas, which caused the engine to fail. The fathers reply was that he was looking to cause the luxury car hire company a loss of their vehicle, it was an act of malicious stupidity. They were ordered to pay over $1500 in damages which is a small price to pay for completely wrecking a car.

We now travel to the other side of the world to Guadalajara, Mexico. One gentleman arrives from his long airplane journey and finds that the luxury car rental service which promised him a car is now out of vehicles and cannot source any for him. His car had not been returned by the original renters yet and this had caused the delay. It took him a further five hours of scouring the city to find an available car and by the time he had located one, he was of course angry with the original rental agency he had procured his quote from. As soon as he arrived home, back in the states, he called the ombudsman of transportation and angrily recounted his sad tale. A few days later and thanks to the intervention of the ombudsman’s department, the erroneous car rental agency refunded the man of $700, for all three days of which he would have perhaps rented their car. Justice was served and even the largest of corporations must pay the price.

When you are planning a trip that requires a luxury car rental, it is required to organise every minute detail. Always hire the appropriate car, which gives the requisite freedom and flexibility for travelling. Do not hold back on on quality or dependability either. Always specify a manual or automatic, as this will drastically effect which cars can be made available to you. For some countries, it is commonplace to only have manual vehicles and if you cannot drive ‘stick’, you are going to be in a tight spot. If you require the rental for a long period of time, use the bigger car rental companies, as they have discounted rates for weekly or monthly rental plans plus they will have excellent insurance cover for your chosen vehicle. When you return you rental, makes sure that the attendant looks over the car for damage, so that you cannot be held liable for any mysterious additional billings later on. Book online, as it saves you the hassle of finding a car when you arrive. In addition, the rates are always considerably lower when booking online [sometimes as much as 20% is shaved off]. Follow these tips and consider the stories of these unfortunate renters when you get hold of a rental car. Less frustration, even when renting a luxury car, is always welcome.
