I Hate My Boss!

By Alicia Samson

I hate my boss! This is a sentiment that is felt by far too many people. That’s why revenge websites, books, and even movies are becoming so popular. Employees are desperate to find ways in which they can work effectively on the job while dealing with a boss who is a pain in the neck.

Well, in some situations, bosses are so unprofessional, hate should turn into action. For example, racist or sexist bosses needed to be reported, since these behaviors are unacceptable. The same can be said for bosses who are emotionally abusive. Of course, filing a report may not do anything, but you’d be surprised at how many people do not even take that step. Sometimes bosses might change if they feel their job is in jeopardy.

Now, if filing a report does not work, or if it is not possible, employees may want to consider getting a different job. Yes, such advice might seem cliche, but it really holds true. No one can perform well in an environment where they are constantly harassed or degraded. There are just too many other jobs out there.

Of course, if money is a concern, employees are going to have to plan things out before quitting. Some solutions could involve getting a roommate or selling an expensive possession. Or, perhaps the Internet could offer a small income, whether it is selling on e-Bay, writing articles for Associated Content or even signing up for paid surveys.

Regardless, be careful before you do anything illegal. Many people naturally gravitate towards wanting to get revenge, or get even, with an ill-tempered boss. Keep in mind, that will get both of you nowhere. Well, unless the revenge tactic is ethical and legal. There are plenty of good tactics out there... do some research, I bet you can find something fun that you will not feel guilty about afterwards. Always remember, revenge is a dish best served cold! And, actually, you may just enjoy it.

But always keep in mind, you will most likely need your boss in the future. Almost every employer nowadays will check with past employers for references. The last thing you need is to be given a bad reference - it can ruin your career. Of course, if you are not on good terms with your boss right now, you may not get the best reference in the world, but that will be a whole lot better then getting a negative reference. At least if you stay on good terms with your boss, they will either give you a decent reference, or not comment at all.

In conclusion, if you are one of the people saying I hate my boss, you need to do something about it. Do not wait around expecting your boss to change, because chances are they will not. Just worry about making yourself happy… even if it means taking a risk and quitting your job. At first you may be really scared, but eventually you will realize that it was the best decision you could make. Remember, money means nothing if you have to sacrifice your personal happiness in order to make it.
