Game Night With the Guys

We’ve all heard about girl’s night out. We know they need it and we’re happy to support it, but what about us? Guys need a night off too. Now all we have to do is come up with some ideas for fun that won’t get us into trouble.

Guys like to hang out, kick back and have a little fun. A low stakes game of poker just might be the thing. A $20 buy in with nickels as chips will make for a fun evening of hanging out with the guys. You’ll have to limit the night to your four closest friends, since poker generally starts out with five players. Finding more than five guys that are able to get away from their other responsibilities on any given night would probably be hard anyway.

Getting the guys together for a round of video games is another great idea. Sports related video games are a good choice here. Football might run a bit long, but playing your favorite team against your buddies rivaling favorite team should provide lots of opportunity for trash talking. Basketball, baseball and golf are other good options. If you have a friend with a Wii, you can even get a little exercise in while playing virtual tennis or bowling. You’ll still be limited in the number of guys who can participate, though since you’ll be taking turns with two remotes and one game system.

Sports events on the other hand allow for a larger group of your friends. They are also a little easier to convince your wife or girlfriend to give you up for a bit since they have a definite starting time and can’t be rescheduled on a whim. All you need for this one is a guy with a big television (the bigger the better) and a few places to sit. You might suddenly be inspired to pick up a few new sports favorites to fill in the gaps between basketball, football, baseball and hockey seasons.

All you need to pull any one of these events off is a location. If you have a single guy in your group, you can always trash (I mean crash) his place. You could rotate houses or help one of the guys in your group clean out his garage. That old basketball hoop and the sawhorses would make a decent Poker table.

In fact, if there is a park with a couple of basketball hoops nearby you can even hangout on a summer night while a few guys play poker and others play hoops. Have each guy bring some food and then kick back, relax and have a good time. Your wife or girlfriend will be glad you’re hanging at a friend’s house playing a few games instead of out at the bars getting yourself in trouble. Well, that’s my plan anyhow.

So go grab a ball and a few buddies and start shooting hoops. The games you can play are endless; from 1 on 1 or 2 on 2, to HORSE, to 21 or a number of different games. Go get some exercise and have fun playing the sport of basketball.
