Are You Living Your Dream or Your Parents’?

By Justin Lukasavige

I wish we were all living our dreams for our lives, but it seems to me that more and more people are living someone else’s dream in their lives. I do acknowledge how difficult it is to pick a career to major in when you are a twenty year old kid, but at some point you must begin to wonder why you are not happy.

Doctors, dentists, lawyers and even pastors rank among some of the most dissatisfied people time and time again. When you think about it, if your dad is a pastor, it could be very difficult for you to “deny the calling” and take your life down another path.

I know you will not find happiness if you are trying to live another persons dream rather than your own. If you are unhappy in your career take a step back and figure out how it is you came to be where you are now. Is it because someone pushed you along the way to do what you are doing?

Your first step, as hard as it may be, is to begin to dream again. What did you always want to do when you were a child? What do you find yourself doing now where the time just flies by?

Can you turn that passion into income? Many people I talk to want to get into ministry. The reality is that you do not need to work in a church setting to realize that dream. You can be a coach or counselor or even turn what you do into a business such as what Jared Miller has done. You will not find him working in a church, but he and his team have helped many turned hundreds of lives around.
